In the words of Shakespeare, "to take the letter or do not take the writing? That's the question here." Okay, maybe that's not exactly what he said, but it's still a question that many parents and students plagues when they sign up for the act. If your cursor floats over the registry button, you may have to ask if your child must decide for the attachment in addition to the full test. The short answer? Probably.
The write share of the law is not required by all schools, but by 300 colleges need or recommend at least that applicants take it. If your student is not sure, wherever he wants to apply, we recommend that you view the secure page to view on the safe page. This ensures that all bases are covered, and you will not be in a bond if your student adds a last minute school for your college list. The write portion can not be taken separately from the Tat test so you need to plan your student to take it with the full review.
So what does the write part take the act?
The write portion is a 40-minute attachment in which students show their skills to form and support an argument. The paper-and-pencil test shows a write request that describes a complex topic, and gives three different perspectives of this problem.
There is an additional registration fee to take the write share of the law. This is currently 16 US dollars.
Prepare the write portion is relatively easy. It requires reading by the grading rubric and sample attachments and writing some exercise attachments. Overall, a student should plan to dedicate a few hours to prepare. The ACT website offers great resources for the preparation that can be found here. In addition, there are some tips to tackle the letter:
Understand the command prompt before starting the attachment.
Plan and open the essay by writing the thesis and the main idea for each paragraph.
Aim to write at least three pages into the exam booklet.
Write at least five paragraphs (introduction, at least three body sections and conclusion).
UseAdvanced vocabulary.
Do not criticize criticism and remain objective.
The filing letter is achieved by two educated readers. Each reader counts the attachment on a scale from 1 to 6 in each of the four writing domains. Each domain score represents the sum of the two reading results. The Grading section can be found here. A score of 8 or more about writing is exceptionally good, with 6 as average value. The table below the percentiles for each score and gives an idea for which reaches your student should target.
The law has added the write portion to the SAT-essay in response to keeping the two tests equivalent. The main difference was that the satellite attachment was required while the letter of action was optional. However, this has changed now. In January 2021, the College Board announced that after 20 June11, the attachment of the Satelle no longer offers.
That's it! Hopefully you have a better idea for whether your student should take the ACT essay or not. If your student needs support to prepare for the essay or other sections of the tests, contact us today.
